Spin for Sarcoma - Ilan Barnea's Fundraiser
My Bar Mitzvah Project, My mission:
The mission of the Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA) is to advocate for sarcoma patients by funding research and by increasing awareness about the disease. The organization raises money to privately fund grants for sarcoma researchers and conducts education and advocacy efforts on behalf of sarcoma patients.
Did you know:
20% of all childhood cancers are sarcomas;
15,000 new sarcoma cases are diagnosed each year;
6000 people die each year from Sarcoma.
My Grandmother was one of those 6000 people who died in 2016 suffering from this disease. Her name was Sarah Adoni. She battled the disease for brave nine years but lost the battle on May 13, 2016. When I originally planned my Bar Mitzvah Project, my grandmother was still alive. I did not think she was going to die when she did. I thought she was going to win the battle. But when she lost her life to this horrible disease, my Bar Mitzvah Project became all the more important to me.
I would like to dedicate my Bar Mitzvah project to my grandmother. I have chosen to be a Champion for the Sarcoma Foundation of America. In my grandmother's honor, I will host spin classes at both ZingCycle in Tenafly, New Jersey and the Rockland JCC in West Nyack, New York. Proceeds will go to the Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA).
Please help me reach my goal by supporting my fundraising efforts. Your gift will make a difference in the lives of many. Any amount helps!
Sarcoma affects not only the 50,000 people living in the US with a sarcoma diagnosis but also their friends, families and neighbors. I am that family member, whose life was greatly affected by this disease. I love my grandmother and I am so sad she is not with us anymore. That’s why I’ve chosen to work with Sarcoma Foundation of America in this fight.
